Tips to Relieve a Sunburn
Summer is slowly coming to an end, but the sun is still shining in many places! Anytime you go out into the sun, you are susceptible to getting a sunburn. While all of you BeWellers should be using SPF with UV protection everyday to prevent damage to the skin from the suns harmful rays, we understand that sunburns still happen to even the most cautious of people.
Incase you do happen to get burned, we have a few remedies for you to try out to help soothe your painful, red skin:
1. Bath Time
Take a bath with cool water. Add in a few tablespoons of baking soda to the tub. You can also try adding about a half cup to a cup of oatmeal powder (so it doesn’t clog your drain) to your bath to soothe skin. Soak in this mixture for about 15-20 minutes, and avoid using loofahs, soap, or washcloths on the affected area. Air dry to prevent any discomfort from occurring.
2. Lotion Up!
BeSure to moisturize your skin immediately after a soak in the tub to prevent dry skin. Pop your favorite lotion or cream in the refrigerator before using to enhance the cooling sensation.
3. Aloe Vera
You can find actual aloe vera plants at a nursery, or even a grocery store’s garden department! Just cut open one of the leaves, and apply the gel directly onto your sunburn for relief. Reapply 5-6 times a day until the sunburn is gone.
4. Tea Time
Soak 3-4 tea bags in a bowl of warm water for about 10-15 minutes, then remove used tea bags. Drench a washcloth in the bowl, and gently apply the cloth to affected areas as you would with a cold compress. Do this before bed until your sunburn has healed.
BeWell wants to remind everyone to BeSafe out in the sun this summer, and take every precaution necessary to prevent overexposure to the sun!
