Secrets to Self-Tanning

Many of us yearn for that beautiful summer glow, but laying out in the sun really takes a toll on the future look of your skin, and your health. Self-tanner is a much safer way to achieve the same bronzed-goddess look, and it won’t damage your skin so you will look young, longer!  BeWell Expo 2013 will offer a complimentary tanning bar on a first-come first-serve basis where each tan will be customized to each person’s individual skin type to ensure a lasting, perfect looking tan.
BeWellers, we have put together a guide to help you prep your skin for self-tanner so it looks flawless and even.
applying self tanner
 Rule 1: Exfoliate
Make sure to start off your skin with an exfoliating scrub in the shower, such as a DIY sugar scrub (although this is a recipe for a lip scrub, it can be used to exfoliate the body as well), to remove all dead skin cells. Use a body wash with moisturizers to make skin extra soft!
Rule 2: Hair Removal
Lather up with shaving cream to thoroughly shave all important areas of the body to leave a smooth surface for the self-tanner.

Rule 3: Moisturize
Apply your favorite lotion all over the body, concentrating on the elbows, knees, and heels. These areas tend to be dryer, and self tanner will appear darker if the area isn’t properly moisturized first, so BeSure to use as thick of lotion or cream as you find necessary!
Rule 4: Time to Tan
For cream or lotion self-tanners, start with arms and legs, then smooth the product into circular motions on your chest. Get someone to help you with your back to ensure your tan comes out even. Pay extra attention to make sure to get the tops of your feet, in-between your toes and fingers, and on your face.
And just in case you do end up with streaky self-tanner, we have a solution.
Squirt some lemon juice onto a loofah, and start scrubbing the area while in a warm shower and the streaks should start to fade!
